Blog ~ News and Updates on Hearndon Homes

August 29th, 2016

For many, Hampton Roads is a thriving region of over a million people with great employment, a variety of housing, and some of the state’s top schools. While these are the qualities that bring a lot of people to our area, finding a space that has more of that green, country feel and outdoor living is becoming harder and harder to find.

If you love small town charm, eco-adventure, performing & visual arts, history, festivals, boutiques, chef-owned restaurants, recreation, golf, guided tours, and peanuts – you’ll love Suffolk, Virginia. Home to Planters Peanuts and the birthplace of the iconic Mr. Peanut, Suffolk boasts an array of activities and attractions. The 112,000-acre Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite for the guided tours, nature trails, canoeing, and bird-watching. The up and coming arts and culture scene has developed into the perfect blend of local, regional, and national artisans through visual arts, theater, dance, music, and more.

With five golf courses, boating, fishing, and kayaking, not to mention historic sites, boutique shopping, relaxing apse and unique eateries, Suffolk truly does offer something for everyone.

We at Hearndon Construction appreciate that need for nature and green spaces while having the conveniences we all love. That’s why we chose an area in Suffolk for our latest development – Foxfield Meadows. If you travel down the country path of Pitchkettle Road near Route 58, you just may find that peace and quite you’ve been looking for, without sacrificing the modern comforts of new construction or the absence of shopping, dining, and other activities near Lake Meade.

About the Area – Pitchkettle Road

The name has a quaintness to it, a sense of something rural and austere and long since retired. Lore has it that American Indians first favored the path and, while on it, “pitched kettles” for camp. Another theory: The name comes from the Indians’ practice of taking the pitch, or resin, from nearby pine trees to seal the wood on their canoes. Whatever the story is, it’s clear to see that the area is steeped in folklore and history, which makes this area a Suffolk a rich community to live.

Outdoor activities are also in abundance in this quaint part of Suffolk. Lake Meade is located just minutes away from Foxfield Meadows and is home to some of the area’s best children’s activities, great shelters for casual gatherings, as well as a place for those who enjoy the beauty of nature.

Whether you are starting a family and looking for that small-town feel or looking to get back to nature, Foxfield Meadows may just be where you call home next.
